Throughout history horses have played a crucial role in transportation, war and more recently sport. The classical or traditionally trained horse should be fit supple and willing to follow its rider's instructions with confidence. The rider should understand what a balanced seat means and how to get the best performance out of their horse regardless of their chosen discipline.
All riding disciplines need a fit supple horse and a confident rider and Una can be the key to your success. She works with horses and riders from all disciplines to improve their overall skill level and performance.
Napoleon (Lusitano cross) owned by Una Clancy Sadly no longer with us.
Una Clancy is from Northern Ireland where she started riding over 30 years ago. She has been instructing and teaching for over twenty five years and was fortunate enough to spend seven years teaching and training in Portugal.
In Portugal she trained in classical dressage as well as Portuguese Equitation. On her last trip (3 years) she worked for Joao Carlos Pamplona with his exhibition horses and taught at his riding school, Quinta do Mahlinha.
With a mix of jumping skills learned in Ireland, classical dressage from Portugal and natural horsemanship techniques she helps riders establish a relationship with their horse. Once that relationship is established it is easier for horse and rider to become more confident and develop their skills. All disciplines require balance, strength and suppleness and Una improves that in both horse and rider.
When you read the books on horsemanship that have been published throughout the ages there is a common sense theme throughout. It may be called traditional or natural horsemanship but there are many methods to help create harmony between horse and rider. Una has learnt something from every horse and rider she has worked with and uses all these skills to custom fit a training system for each individual horse and rider.
She is looking forward to the spread of Traditional Horsemanship Association (THA) as she has always maintained that a well trained horse is suitable for many disciplines. Whether it is Cowboy Dressage, Trec, Jumping or Endurance a fit supple horse in partnership with an educated rider can achieve anything they want.
